The Department was established in the year 1975 by Eminent Academicians Emeritus Prof. M Radhakrishna Sharma and Prof. S. Dhareshwari. It was envisioned to impart the knowledge and wisdom related to the subject of Ancient Indian History, Culture and Archaeology both through class room theory classes and field Archaeological visits, Projects, workshops, Seminars and conferences at Post - Graduate and Research levels. To have collaboration with Institutes such as ASI, State Government Department of Archaeology and Museums, Heritage, Archival Research, SalarJung Museum and others for better understanding of the subject by the students and research scholars. To establish a full-fledged Archaeological Lab for promoting practical's and Departmental Museum to collect pre-historic, Proto -historic and historic artefacts related to the region improve better understanding of the subject especially archaeology.
